Chuang Chuang, the hugely-popular male Panda on loan to Thailand from China has passed away aged 19 in Chang Mai Zoo. The people of Thailand are mourning the famous mammal whose attempts to mate in captivity were widely publicised.
The Panda had been a resident at Chang Mai Zoo since October 2003 and arrived with his female partner Lin Hui, where they lived together in their own enclosure that was built specifically to regulate their temperature.
Chiang Mai zoo director Wutthichai Muangmun said before his death, Chuang Chuang was doing what he liked to do most, eating large amounts of Bamboo.
Chuang Chuang shot to fame as the zoo publicised the attempts to mate the pair, even showing him are bizarre form of Panda adult entertainment moves to try and spice up their habits. However, Lin Hui was eventually artificially inseminated. The pair were due to return to China in 2023.
